Nevada, Iowa
Jake, my old friend, how are you?

We worked with rye, seeded by air, into beans just starting to turn for a few years in the middle 80's. If we couldn't deal with it mechanically we would burn it down with Extrazine, at that time, and plant corn. We really liked this. Sometimes I think we still see some of the affects it had on some of our gummy spots. We quit after a wet fall, the rye really seemed to make the ground extra spongy and harvest was by the skin of our teeth that year. Increased seeding costs kind of clinched it.

If you don't mind the details, how are you seeding, what rate per acre, how are you dealing with it in the spring, where are you getting seed? Thanks
