Martinsville, Ohio | I had field that wouldn't raise decent corn so I turned it into a giant test plot. Every time I filled was two new hybrids split in a 6 row planter so every time you turned you had blocks of 6 rows, probably had 20 in there. They all did better than normal but a couple stood out and they had deep roots, staygreen and a high drought tolerance rating. They would be at the bottom of yields in better soil. They tended to be fixed eared, long narrow red cobbed hybrids in my experiment where the pink cobs did better on my best soil. The yield varied from about 100 to the two that made near 140. Normally would have been 70-100. Of course I am notilling the first day it is dry enough to drive over it no matter what the calendar says. Each situation is a little different... | |
