Subject: doesn't anyone do the old shake em and bite em method?

Driftless SW Wisconsin

From when I worked in combines we used to shake the plant to see if there were pods shattering and bite into a few beans to see if there was a crunch. Shake the plantfrom the top back and forth quickly about 3" as a std 3" knife might do. Not high tech but it works. If a lot of pods shake open you start harvest at a bit less crunch. If the pods stay tight then wait until the beans crunch. jmho.
