Yeah, but farmers don't care about livestock anymore because of the wonder business called ethanol. Give it ten years ethanol will consolidate big time and all these small plants will be mothballed, and ADM and Cargill will run the show, as well as all the ethanol coming in on overseas tankers. And along the way, it will be a lot easier for Mexico and Brazil to raise our livestock, because they don't regulate them to death, they have cheap labor to grow the livestock and process them and it is a lot easier to unload the hog in the US in packages to be sold in Walmart than to mess with growing and butchering it here, it is a very gloomy future for us young ones. It seems the boomers are in it for the fast buck with no cares for the future generations. In order to be sustainable our industry's complete cycle needs to take place here. Livestock is a very crucial part of our farm economy, I think we're going to realize that when it is way too late. Look at the UK, we are just 10 years behind them, they are essentially just gardeners hired by the government (subsidized) to keep the country side looking nice. They even passed a law a couple years ago that allows the public free access to private land for recreational use. It will be a sad day when we depend on other countries and governments to supply us with food.
