Subject: Fell and the insulin theory - burning off body fat

Pittsburg, Kansas
Fell is just (or maybe was just back then) ignorant of the facts and recent scientific research on the subject of insulin. Maybe accidentally, maybe on purpose.

There is no one more up to date on insulin than researcher and educator Benjamin Bikman. Fell should educate himself by listening to some of Bikman's presentations. He is on the front line of the insulin theory of obesity.

Calories in/calories out is only part of the story. An incomplete story. It is much more complicated than that and involves hormones, specifically insulin and glucagon but also many other more minor ones. Weight loss and metabolic health is more than just about calories and energy balance. It is what the body does with the calories that matters. And what is done with the calories of different macro foods (protein, fat and carbohydrates) is determined by hormone levels. Insulin being a major one.

Without low levels of insulin the body can not access body fat (stored groceries). To burn body fat insulin levels MUST be low. Eating foods that raise insulin will cause the body to burn those calories in favor over burning body fat. To lose weight as fat weight, insulin levels must be low. There is more than one way to lower insulin (getting calories low enough is one way, a low carb diet is another) but insulin must be low to lose body fat.
