Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

About 25 years ago, I grew a little hard red spring wheat. High protein makes for good gluten strength. About that time, I decided to stop poisoning my customers with Malathion and Tempo on the stored grain, that really weren't all that effective anyways. It can get chilly in Montana and if a grower puts a bit of aeration in their bin, running that system when ambient temps are below 20° F will kill all the bugs in the grain. I'm also not a fan of dumping in a bunch of dead skeletons as found in the DTE products. If it grinds up living bugs, I'm not fond of having it in my innards and knowing folks that work in grain elevators, some of them had real problems when exposed to breathing it.
As for keeping your wheat off the combine, put it in plastic bags and leave it sit in your freezer for a week. Keep air from it after it comes out of the freezer and you won't have bug problems.
