I tried some a few years back as well. Wasn't impressed by them at all. They did just what you said, no vigor. Beans Planted in May were thicker,taller, and yielded better. That being said, I feel ya, soil conditions are great. Been fairly dry all winter, feel beans could be safely planted 1st of April. I have a cover crop keeping me from making that mistake. I'll let it keep growing through April, as it will keep rooting down until its time to start heading out.
