PROSPECT, TENNESSEE
Seems the "early" planting has escalated very quickly! Early in this area used to mean April 20 th. I do it every year, and in 2023 was done by May 3rd. Overall average was in the high 60's, cut some over 100 bu/a, but cut some deer damaged under 30.
My take on "plant early" is ... If I just had one planter, I would defiantly plant some beans before corn, then plant my corn and then finish beans. Otherwise, I wouldn't start planting beans till mid-May.
This is the reason I have two planters! I literally planted corn and beans the same day Mutiple times in 2023, and in years past! I have got bit in the butt a time or two with a late freeze, but with the replant seed being free, I will continue to plant in April. If things don't change, my bean planter will be rolling the week after Easter this year, soil is warming fast, so going to get my full season beans (5.4) in the ground!
