DKO:  Your post was dead on.  I just about had to rope my wife in bed with one of our children during this stage.  When they finally realize that Pop and Mom are serious and not going to appease their every little whim at night, they start sleeping.  Many parents never learn that with the result the little tyke has their parents right in the palm of their hand.  The kid is miserable and the parents even more so.
