The time period right after WW2, in my opinion, was one of the happiest in American history. The troops were home...had enough modern conveniences to take the everyday drudgery out of life....the need for goods (cars tractors etc. made short by the War) meant a job for everyone.
Then again, this is the time period I grew up in...so maybe I'm just reminiscing.
