Subject: RE: Privacy laws?? in automobiles?

It may be the policy of the dealer not to disclose the info. I know at our dealership, they are anal about the privacy issue. According to the dealership owner, We are required by law to protect ALL personal information about our customers, to the extent, that they are even our customer. We have to shred the part of work orders that has their name and address on it before throwing them in the trash. This is all the same deal as when you go to the hospital and have all the HIPPA forms to fill out. It is all to avoid a possible lawsuit. To hand you the owners name and phone number will violate the privacy laws and might upset their customer who may not want to be bothered.
It is probably the same deal with this dealer. A sad state of affairs that can be blamed on the lawyers.
