Subject: Amount of Early applied N needed?

Is there a concensus as to how much N needs to be applied early-either right before, during or shortly after planting, corn following beans? Been looking at some of my fields and they show more drought stress than neighbors field and I know they applied more N early. We have been very short of rain. We both sidedressed n later,too. What's everyone think of the new online n recomendations?
