A couple suggestions from the humid east.
Disc mower-conditioner with STEEL on STEEL crimper style conditioning rolls(Deere and Hesston both offer), follow 3-5 hours after mowing with a good rotary tedder(Kuhn seems to be the prefered builder in here) then which ever style of rake you prefer. I have used a rotary rake, owned one for while, and had a party when it left, miserable POS to bale behind. As per the easiest rake to bale behind, my choice would be a New Holland Rolabar rake. Just enough "roping" to make a baler feed nicely.
Please note CRIMPER not crusher.
