Subject: RE: Speeding hay drying?

Cliff, we also put up quite a bit of hay in Iowa about 3 hours nothwest of you. A few years ago I went and bought an old new holland hay crusher aand it has saved me a couple of times. We cut with a 12 foot disc conditioner but only cut about 10 and always lay it in a 6 -7foot windrow. When I think I need to beat the rain I will use the crusher the next morning. I think it cuts a good day off the dry time. We use a H&S wheel rake and I never rake anything together until the day that I know we will bale. We are putting most everything in big squares so we need to get it good and dry, but I will have him put acid on if we need to beat a rain. I figure good hay with acid is better than hay in the windrow rained on. We had three good dry cuttings this year, the fourth got wet the night I cut it and it turned out real good
