Nebraska | My opinion on 2015, and I was as guilty as everyone else, is that we paid way too much for cattle in the 6 months before the crash because the cattle of the previous 1.5-2 years could do no wrong. We were paying ridiculous prices because we wanted them, not because they were good enough to justify that money.
The market slapped some guys in the face for doing it by not going higher still, which made others puke theirs, and then that snowball just rolled to the bottom. If you were allowed to stay in the game, the next turn worked well though. Didn’t make back what the previous one lost, but put a good dent in it and got you going forward again. Calves and breds were a heck of a buy that fall. | |
