North Central Kansas | Another difference was that the drought in 2012 which caused the sell off of the cow herd was limited to the Southern Plains. Plus a lot of the better cows didn’t go to slaughter but were entbto areas that had feed. This time the drought occurred th full length of the plains from Texas up into Canada and East into Missouri and Arkansas. With a lot of the cows going to slaughter.
Our average age of producers is much older this time also. In my area the high prices has spurred some older guys to sell out of the cows.
