What they do not want to mention is that during a drought less water runs of the fields. Total amount of pollution to the Gulf is less because even though the water has a higher percentage of pollution per gallon less water.. The issue about cities is about the same, the pollution from them is a about constant but goes up as a percent of the river water. Maybe a little less from street runoff. Drought in the Mississippi will deliver less total pollution to the gulf, but it maybe worst closer to the land because less waters to push it out into the main ocean.

Also the worst nitrate pollution runoff from farms was recorded the year after a drought on first year corn following alfalfa. This was thought to be due to the brake down of the alfalfa roots. Also this is the first time we had record crops during a drought, so less unused fertilizer?
