But where do you think they came up with that weight?
You're right, they buy by weight, but they have to have the standard by which to pay you. Bushel(volume determined by test weight) x price.
Test weight explains why a leveled out wagon sometimes is 200 bushels (standard), only 180 bushels (lower test weight) or 225 bushels (higher test weight)
If the crop wasn't influenced by growing conditions making every year different, there would be no need for figuring in test weight.
