| A novice CAN lay a nice bead with a wire welder, but that doesn't mean it's worth a crap.
I've worked both as a production welder, and as an inspector in a welding department of a manufacturing company.
I can say without a doubt, most people cannot weld worth a damn with a wire welder. I've rejected tens of thousands of dollars worth of parts because the weld looked pretty, but I could pull the components apart with my hands.
I've yet to see a good looking stick weld that wasn't a good one.
I still weld with an old stick welder, just learned to match amps and stick to what I'm welding. Hasn't failed me yet!
