I remember reading an article reporting on research Ellsworth Christmas did at Purdue. He got yield increases going all the way down to 7.5 in. rows even in Southern Indiana of about 2% over 15 in. rows ( higher as you go north) and also higher yields from populations at 200,000-220,000 that more than paid for the higher seed costs of Roundup seed. He said you leave some yield on the table by not using drilled soybeans and by reducing seeding rates below this range.
