That's my point. There are very few poor people in this country compared to old days. A single mother on welfare has a pretty good wage and benefit package today. Average high school graduates or even dropouts that get married and both work usually have a $100,000 dollar combined income. I think the average household income in the US is north of $70,000. Everybody can afford to be fat. They didn't have that luxury in the decades before. It's not just food and fat people. High incomes have changed the face of the country. Nice houses everywhere, multiple late model vehicles everywhere for each person in the family, recreation, sporting events constantly with high priced tickets. People can't get enough of it and they have the money to keep doing it. Not to mention when your income is high enough you don't have to do any of the grunt work that keeps you slim. You pay someone to roof the house, till the garden, do the landscaping, change the brakes on the car, even wash the car. When was the last time you seen somebody wash their car in their driveway after or before they go to work? You don't. You see a line heavy 40 year olds in the line at the car wash in town paying $20 for the deluxe automatic wash on the newly leased suv and drive right into Mcdonalds and drop $15 on food for the way home. It's good for convenience but the lethargic habits lead to obesity. High incomes = fat population.
The median household income is only $67,000 |
