Maybe there's something to deep ripping periodically??

We have a hardpan at approximately 12-16" deep in many of our fields. Some of it may be natural........but maybe some of it could be attributed to moldboard plowing, etc. Some of our soils are just EXTREMELY tight.........some not so much. In one of our sandy fields behind the house I pulled those 8 shanks at 4.5mph 20" deep and I barely had the engine wound up. In one of our poorly drained fields which tends to pond I could barely pull those same shanks at the same speed using all that tractor had.

Sure is a miserable day here today. 95 degrees, very humid, and not a breath of air.
