Eastern Iowa | What tillage practices do you guys that are doing corn on corn use? We found that strip-tilling in a corn/bean rotation works nicely but haven't been able to perfect strip-tilling in with corn on corn. We have been trying corn on corn for about 3-4 years now. There is a LOTof residue, rootworms (though genetics are helping with that a lot), western bean cutworm, anthracnose... that you can run into when trying to perfect corn on corn. Is it necessary or adventagous to bury most of the residue or leave it on top? They say that leaving the residue on top can make that first couple inches of soil actually toxic to new kernels when planted the following year. Any truth to that? Does starter fertilizer on the planter help when your planting on top of your strips that contain P, K, Anhydrous, and Urea? I'm sure that there are different methods that work for different people. Just curious how different people are dealing with this and what type of success your having. | |
