Here's a couple simple things we do to try to keep the compaction to a limited area. When the combine opens up a land that pass becomes a "road" for the cart. When heading to the combine the cart driver uses the "road till he gets to where it's time to unload the combine then he heads across the rows till he gets to the combine. When the combine is emptied the cart driver then angles back to the "road" and then to the trucks to empty. That way most of the compaction from the cart is limited to a limited area making it easier to come back in with a ripper to rip out the "roads" if need be.

The other is we try to unload the combine when it's head back towards the trucks limiting the amout of travel the cart makes while loaded. It's amassing to watch guys unload into carts headed away from the trucks when they could be unloading coming back to the trucks. I realize it always doesn't work out this way but a lot of the times it does.
