No, Dave you don't understand. He said half their farm ground is family ground. That is a totally different set of economics. He will do fine with that good of a base. With the insurance opportunities we have and the huge subsidies on corn and ethanol production he will do fine. The guys that have to pay a banker before they pay themselves are the ones who need to worry. It's a dog eat dog world and we are growing commodities, commodities always seek breakeven in the long run. Farmers no longer care about each other, they will ravage their neighbor to make an extra buck. It's all about RR crops and the cheapest tote of glyphosate you can buy, and multiply it out by the maximum number of acres you can attain, then wait at the mailbox until harvest. Anyone who believes all the talk about sustained $3.00 corn is only kidding themselves. Oil prices could be brought down to $20/barrel in a couple weeks. Remember just a few years ago oil was $9.00/barrel? That would make ethanol look like a toilet for dollar bills, and people will soon forget the "green" benefits of biofuels. By then we will be importing all our meat in from foreign feeders and packers because we had a better use for corn and lost the livestock corn demand. Then we will all be sitting around with $1.00/bu corn sitting in all our big bins we built for the huge demand trying to find people with corn furnaces to give it to because it isn't worth anything to anyone else. What goes up must and will go down, it's just a law of economics and we are now a global economy, it is not as easy as set aside acres and trade embargos anymore if we don't supply it, somone else will.
