| I've got neighbors who in the past said they planted close to 3" deep. It seemed a little to out of the norm for me, but I imagine the big draw back might be delayed emergence (the seedling has to come up and extra 1/2 to 1"). Leaves starting to spread underground might also be a problem if the seed bed is cloddy. I also wonder at what depth the seedling runs out of gas and doesn't make it to the surface.
