| Jim, I have row cleaners only on a 7200 planter (had coulters on a 7000 previously), but the planter is old enough that it didn't have the equalizers - do you see them as a 'must have'? I also have keetons which came on the planter. It looks like the row cleaners helped me get a better stand over the 7000 (my stand counts match my planter setting) and though it was wet the keetons (or maybe they are rebounders?) did not appear to make things worse and may have helped (I'm concerned they may smear the seed trench).
Currently I have the fixed row cleaners, would going to floating be a big improvement? Would you go to floating row cleaners 1st or install equalizers 1st? Do you think these devices and improved depth control are a larger factor in good stand/yield than planting at 2" vs 3"? As posted earlier I'm sure there are times when deeper is better to get into moisture and it's important to consider, but like Mr. Ferrie points out consistency appears to be king.
Thanks, sorry about hijacking the post a little,
