| Jake, I would have to agree with Tim, at least on a 1-2" rain. If you would happen to get a 4-5" rain right after planting, not too uncommon around here, you wouldn't have to worry about water standing in the row cleaner tracks, the whole field would probably be ubnder water & if not the rain would have washed the cleaner tracks in & corn would probably be 4-5" deep instead of the 2-3" yu wanted.
As far as planting depth, I've been farming on my own since 1971 & have gotten into more problems trying to plant shallow than deep, within reason. Old saying around here is "you can't plant corn to deep & you can't plant soybeans too shallow". To contradicte myself, I prefer planting corn around 2" deep & beans around 1". Use to be when I was dfrilling beans if I could look over to the last pass & see a bean laying on top the ground every once in awhile I felt I was getting them planted just right. | |
