NE SD | Jake, Row cleaners are a good investment. This year we couldn't use them to their full potential because we were so wet that if we ran them as deep as we wanted to, the soybean residue was coming off the ground in big flakes and plugging between the 20" rows. It's good to see a little bit of dirt moving with the trash whippers. Below you can see how we like to set them if conditions are ideal. Rain levels things out. That picture makes me want that planter back......best planter we've ever owned.
As far as seed depth, we have been aiming at 2+" in corn. 3/4-1" for wheat/beans. This year we ended up with quite a bit of the corn in closer to 2 1/2"- trying to overset for press wheels that were caking with mud. I think next year we'll aim for 1 1/2-2" instead. Seemed like it took an awful long time to push out.
