Subject: I have my doubts that stripped fert is anymore avail. than broadcast.


First of all, the reason only 20-40 % of broadcast is available to the plant is that the rest has to be broken down by soil microbes and soil chemistry action to be in plant available form. Same goes for what's in the band- same percentages-just closer to that years crop roots which may be of some short term value. Moisture is still the key. I have seen strip till suffer in drought situations because no moisture was in the strip, too much air. The ferilizer there did not help one bit and may have burned the roots to some extent.
