mhagny, The soil tests that increased in OM were in 19 different fields, all with the same soil type(Mexico silt loan), and mostly level. Our soils dont vary much here---we're on a prairie and the whole county has basically the same soil. Field after field in this area during the eighties had OM levels of 1-1.5%. The whole area was conventional tillage and probably 2/3to3/4 soybeans. Not a good combo for OM. That's when we started changing practices. All those 19 original fields were probed 6 in. deep with multiple probes in each sample and all were always sent to A&L labs in IN. None of these fields were over 1.5% when we started changing practices except for a field that had come out of sod. Not trying to argue--just trying to learn.
