Subject: RE: how to exit a family farm

West Union, Illinois

There is not enough information here to give a good suggestion. Let's see if I understand correctly:

You rent your Grandfather's ground on a 50/50 basis.  I assume (dangerous) that means he is paying for half the expenses and getting half the revenue. "old school methods" could be interpreted several ways.  Does this mean he wants all conventional tillage, or no RR or GMO seed, or doesn't want to borrow operating money, or he won't spend the money on a new pickup truck?

And what does "see him in a bad spot" mean?

You're in a 50/50 partnership with your Dad but keep ground separate.  So ... does that mean you each own identical tractors, own equipment together, one owns a tractor the other owns a disk, or what?

"how should i take my equip, or can i still share and make it work"   If you take your equipment and run what will you have?  Because if I were Gramps you for sure would be looking for someone else to rent from.  And if you leave Dad in a lurch like that ... you're burning a family bridge you don't want to be burning.

We don't know enough to make a good suggestion,, but if all possible you need to MAKE IT WORK.

As for wondering "if you as a potential land lord would discredit me" not knowing any more than I do, Yes, I would discredit you.  If you can't get along with your Dad and Grandfather who apparently are giving you half of what they have worked all their lives to acquire ... why should I step into that mess?  You can't even take the time to use proper grammar and click on a spell checker on the computer before whining online!

Yes, that reply is a bit rough.  But the way you have presented yourself it sounds like you need a good dose of reality.  Because it sounds like you're a snot-nosed a$$hole who doesn't appreciate what he has.

I hope you can prove me wrong.

edit: By The Way, why did you choose to ask this question in the "Kitchen table" section of AgTalk? There are better places to ask a question like this.

(I could get called Mark with a response like that!)
