If you want to get rid of the residue & help control insects then the best thing to do is molboard plow but that's not the most economical way. I normally have a couple hundred acres of corn back on corn each year & we apply our plow down in the fall (nitrogen breaksdown the residue quicker), disc the stalks & finish up by running a disc ripper over them. If we have time we will come back after the soil temps have dropped below 50ยบ and apply AA. Usually in the spring we will just run a field cultivator & crumbler ahead of the planter.

The last couple years our best corn has been 2nd year corn. Haven't gone to continious corn but am considering it on one farm. I usually try to plant an early season corn the first year & a fuller season the 2nd year. That way we don't have so much residue to worry about ahead of the 2nd yr corn. Also look forn corns that are rated for corn after corn.
