if irrigation isn't a problem then it is a good system, it spreads out the work load so yo are not so busy in the spring and fall working ground when you should be planting or combining. the residue will stay between the rows and you will not have to much problem with it. we do a few acres of corn on corn and all of our beans are planted directly into corn stubble without problems. the only thing we do before planting is drag the field a few days before planting to nock over the old stalks (it also helps dry out the soil a little). then in the early summer you will have to cultivate to rebuild your ridges( at least every once in a wile). cultivating is also a nice time to put some n down. one other benefit of cultivating is that you open up your soil and let some air in during the growing season. one other benefit of ridge till that is nice is the ridges are a built in guidance system just get your tractor going the right direction and let go of the wheel
