Northeastern Pa. | The first question out of a non -farmer or farmer is how many acres do you farm? You can farm 1000 acres(that is big here) or 100 acres and have the same take home pay. You may be frustrated not getting the acres you "think" you want but you might be more frustrated with more acres. We once ran the roads for 100 acres of small fields here and there. Dragging hay and row crop equipment on the hilly winding roads. All we accomplished was worn out tires and equipment. I waited 30 years to get farmland across the river from our home farm. Now we farm our home farm and 300 acres in one spot. No more chasing our tails and running in circles. I like watching others do that though. Farm the ground you get and concentrate on better yields, 200 bu./acre on 100 acres is a lot more profitable than 100 bu./acre on 200 acres. | |
