Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

GM has just announced that they will also adopt the NACS end for their EV charging. The move will allow them access to the Tesla charging network. They also plan to buy some Tesla Superchargers to be installed at their dealerships. Sounds like the chargers will be purchased from Tesla at a substantial discount.
So, now we have two of the big three joining the party. I think this will pretty much be the death knell for the clunky CCS end. We might even see some of the non-Tesla chargers, like Electrify America, EV Go, and Charge Point sprouting the new connector.

Another development from Ford when their CEO Jim Farley seems to have had an epiphany on vehicle software. He lamented the fact that in the past, they had relied on the manufacturers of the various chip and sub-assemblies to bundle their software with the chip. Typical Ford has more than 150 such chip and sub-assemblies and none of them are capable of really interacting with the other 149 on the typical vehicle. If Ford wants to change one minor thing on the controller, they currently need to go through the maker, which takes time. That detail also helps explain why no maker other than Tesla can push software updates to their vehicles, while the owners sleep and the car is parked. It is not unusual for a Tesla owner to come out to his vehicle and find new or updated features that cost nothing extra. Other makers force owners to wait for new model year updates that are part of a new vehicle purchase.
