Subject: RE: EV news from ICE companies

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

I agree that Ford is acting the fool here but when compared with GM, Stellantis, VW, and especially Toyota, they are geniuses. Lately, they have come to the realization that chips and software is where the game is. Herbert Diess at VW, realized this and started a program to develop an integrated system of chips and software for their vehicles. He found out that it is extremely hard and got fired for his efforts, to boot. Toyota is and has been playing a game of confuse and stall. Say what you want about Ford, but at least they can build an EV that the wheels don't fall off of and leave their engineers puzzling why it is happening and how to fix the problem. Toyota recently bought a Tesla Model Y and their engineers tore it down for evaluation. They were gob-smacked by the advancements in manufacturing employed but figured it would take at least five years to come up with something similar. Meanwhile, the best selling vehicle title that they held for several years has been claimed by the Tesla Model Y and Toyota sales are plummeting. A question that one might ask is. "With ICE sales drying up along with profits from them, what will a company saddled with burdensome debt fuel their development of EVs with?" As for GM, they have just killed manufacture of their best selling EV, the Chevy Bolt, and really have no capacity to produce a replacement for at least a couple years. It's no secret that they were losing significant amounts of money on each Bolt they sold so that explains the decision but doesn't fix their problem. Meanwhile they continue to produce their GM Hummer, in very limited quantities. Seriously, a 2,000 Lbs. + battery pack that takes hours at a DC fast charger to top up and still gives seriously limited range?
