I personally don't like Tesla vehicles becuase Tesla is trying to take the responsibilty of driving the vehicle away from the driver...and people are allowing the vehicle to do to the driving for them. A simple backup camera doesn't even "work" on a snowy/sloppy day on MN roads.

The problem is, there are very, very few drivers on the roads these days that actually use their heads. Once the self driving is near perfected, it will be far, far more safe than traveling by car now. And just because the big three cannot place a backup camera where it won't get covered in slop, doesn't mean it can't be done. And once most of the cars on the roads are connected and can communicate with one another, it will be even more safe. Until we get there, humans will still be causing accidents - and no doubt most of the guys on here will find some way to blame the self driving car. I'd be a dollar to a donut that the OP's accident would never have happened had he been running on autopilot.

Also, keep in mind that most big planes in the air today are pretty much flying themselves.
