Litchfield MN.
95h has a lot of good advice.

I'd like to address the issue with you and your fourteen year old son. It is not uncommon for 14 year olds to avoid their parents at this stage in their life. They are insecure with who they are themselves. His playing video/computer games over realtionships with people is a symptom of his self-esteem. He is avoiding dealing with them. It's easy to get caught up in the virtual world over reality. When he visits you, try to limit his time on the "electronic devices"--ie. computer, cell phone, video games. Yes, he'll play the "unfair card" and "Mom lets me!", but try to find projects to work on or places to go, instead. Yes, it may be tough at first, but don't give up on it or take his reactions personally. Hang in there and when he's 16, if you've helped him through his issues, you'll be rewarded greatly with a more appreciative young adult.

Good luck!
